Richard’s passion for art and design began at a young age, and he nurtured this creative spark as he pursued formal studies in furniture design at University in Wales, studying ‘3-Dimensional Design and Craftsmanship’. Following this, he progressed to teaching design and technology in a community high school. His dedication to his practice and unyielding work ethic led him to experiment with various materials and techniques, honing his skills and elevating his craft.
In projects such as ‘Mykonos meets Miami’ and ‘Russell House’, Richard and I worked collaboratively to continuously push the boundaries of contemporary furniture design, combining aesthetics, functionality and sustainability in ways that are nothing short of breathtaking. Our designs are a seamless blend of form and function that speaks to our commitment to both artistry and utility.
In discussing his work, Richard explains how his joinery is a reflection of the care and dedication he provides for his collaborators. Working in both old-school methods via pen and paper and now extending into contemporary methods, each piece is truly unique.
Richards’ portfolio boasts a myriad of iconic pieces which are featured in many of my projects. From sleek vanities, fireplace joinery, entertainment units, kitchens, bathrooms home offices, tv cabinets and custom dining tables, our bespoke designs cater to diverse tastes while maintaining a cohesive artistic signature. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable from his experience working in the industry for over 30 years, his passion for his work is as admirable as the pieces he creates. All the great joinery I have ever done has come from this factory.
Each piece is uniquely original and no two are alike, which is one of the most exciting factors when collaborating with manufacturers as a designer. I am always learning from Richard, and his practical expertise complements the conceptual demands of my role as a designer. ‘Working with people who are passionate and know what they are doing’ is one of the most important factors for Richard when choosing designers to work with, as well as people who share the same amount of dedication and passion for their work as I do.
Richard stands apart from many joiners due to his passion and dedication to working with others to bring to life a shared ambition. His exceptional craftsmanship has allowed designers such as myself to transcend and transform conceptual ideas into physical works.
As Richard and I continue to create bespoke furniture which is beautifully curated for the client, our collaborative relationship becomes stronger and will undoubtedly support an ever-expanding portfolio of gorgeous pieces. The characterful interiors created through hours of brainstorming and production embrace a range of atmospheres and emotions. As Richard continues to work with tireless dedication and playful enthusiasm, he is both a delight and an inspiration to work with.
